After a great family style dinner and breakfast at Phantom Lodge, we head out early. From the canyon floor we dont get an idea of large the canyon really is. Thats because the surrounding elevation is about 300 meters high blocking most of the view beyond which is the plateau and after that the rim begins to rise

The strenuous climb begins

In this picture you can see the trail to plateau point just left to the second structure on right that is casting a shadow. Its the thin bright line on the plateau. Beyond that is the river gorge.

Civilization is a couple of hundred feet away.
Restaurants, Transit service, Cars, Roads and Gift Shops.
And just as we stepped off the trail we found ourselves in the middle of it all, again.
